Starter Kit

So I'm writing this review, similar to one posted on Trust Pilot, because of how amazed I am with this product.

As a mature woman with salt and pepper hair, with defined silver areas as well as much darker areas, plus dip dyed purple, just because, and to top it all off, mixed afro hair (mixed race), my hair can do anything from full on natural afro (Samuel L Jackson style), to blow dried waves. (But not without a bit of effort).

So I was absolutely amazed that any shampoo and conditioner that wasn't part of a styling system, (have been working with the curly girl method) could possibly have a positive effect.

When curly, I'm using the required shampoo and conditioner, then creme, gel...and so on. My hair mostly come out looking wet/greasy and crunchy before I break the cast, then weighed down and yucky once the cast has been broken.

With blow dried hair, or straightened hair, it looks lovely, but still feels as though it been brushed with talc...like the hair is close to my scalp but the mid lengths onwards are taking on a life of their own. (Yes I realise this is a product issue).

So welcome Selkie to the party. My first discovery was hair that felt as it did when I was a child. Soft, full, moving. Then when I went for the curls, I simply used a preferred product, and boom...comfortable curls that I didn't need to re-treat daily.

The only thing I do need to manage properly now, is how much shampoo I'm using, because I suspect I'm using too much. But I just love the feel and smell of washing my hair. I now completely look forward to it. And has actually inspired me to re-look at my make up and moisturiser products.

It's amazing just how much difference good hair makes to how you feel about yourself.

I've been really pleasantly surprised with Selkie's shampoo & conditioner. I was initially quite skeptical as the shampoo definitely lacks the foaminess that bottle shampoos bring when washing but my hair has never felt so soft and healthy. I have very fine hair which usually becomes greasy within a day but I now get at least an extra day if not two before it needs washing again, very pleased! The price is a little high, but as I'm having to wash my hair less it actually works out quite well. I also really like the idea behind Selkie and it's the best alternative shampoo I've used so far. Half a point knock down for the conditioner, which doesn't do the best job of detangling. But overall, I'd definitely recommend!

Shocked at how good this product is, I have fine curly hair and an itchy scalp and always fork out for expensive shampoo and conditioner. I saw the promotion online and wanted to give it a go because I want to be more sustainable but wasn't expecting such good results. It's true that you need a bit more water to get a good lather with the shampoo, but I think that means the product has got less unnatural ingredients so it's just a change of habit. My hair is so soft and shiny and I've had less itchiness and irritation using Selkie than I have with with products I fork out £50+ for!! Converted and telling my friends and family!

For many years I have been trying to find hair care products (shampoo, conditioner) that are natural, no harsh chemicals and environmental friendly too. So no plastic. Tried lots of shampoo bars but unfortunately non of them worked well on my hair. They just left my hair greasy and tangled. Then I came across Selkie. What an amazing idea to make powder shampoo then we can mix it at home with water. Selkie works perfectly on my hair, it leaves my hair soft, shiny and smells absolutely beautiful. Even my boyfriend complimented how soft my hair is and the lovely smell. I can only recommend Selkie to anyone. And obviously NO single use plastic. Ps: I have long blond (coloured) hair. Absolutely love it, definitely 5 stars.

You need to firstly get your head around the less foaming when washing but when you realise the foam is a cosmetic, unnecessary part of the performance of conventional shampoos and after a few washes with Selkie you’ll get it. I find my hair stays cleaner for much longer and is brighter and the colour stays for so much longer. I get less tangling and my hair is in great condition now. I’m very happy with the switch and have no plans to go back to conventional shampoo and conditioners.
